krajinka...

Krajinka means landscape or countryside, but in its broader context, the traditions of the countryside and the small villages.

The Slovakian film director, Martin Sulk, chose Krajinka as the name of one of Slovakia's most successful domestic films, in a country dwarfed by the film industry and traditions of neighbouring Czech Republic.

"Krajinka is a film about a little country that doesn't exist because it has no sense of cultural identity. This is the dilemma of Slovakia." Director, Martin Sulk.

'Do Slovaks really need Slovak culture? Or will they just assimilate culture from abroad?' Martin Sulk.
