guan xi...

Guan xi [pron: gwan see] means connections, trust and much more besides. Guan xi is the foundation of Chinese business culture.

Without guan xi a business venture will sink like a stone. American corporations rely on lawyers, Chinese business culture has guan xi; Singapore has both.

In 2008 the Singapore government began a promotion to attract new business ventures to its shores. Its slogan? Guan xi.

'Competition is intensifying. Singapore cannot simply stay with the "East plus West" formula. Guan xi means trust and connectedness.' Government Minister, Teo Chee Hean, launching 'Guan Xi'  promotion at Raffles Hotel.
