gotong royong...

People of Indonesia
Gotong royong is a time honoured tradition in Indonesia and parts of Malaysia. It means helping each other out, doing each other favours, fostering a sense of community spirit and communal bonding.

"Gotong royong as a joint bearing of burdens, an enormous inventory of highly specific and often quite intricate institutions for effecting the cooperation in work, politics, and personal relations alike…" Clifford Geertz, The Interpretation of Cultures.

Tolong-menolong translates as 'reciprocal assistance', and defines the social hierarchy that
governs how people interact with each other. Know your place, in other words.
