Yapa means to add a little more, something extra, a bonus, as a favour. ![]() At the market places of La Paz, El Alto or Cochabamba it is customary to say to the seller, 'yapa, yapa'; a little bit more. Bolivia has three official languages, Spanish, Quechua and Aymara. Yapa comes from Quechua, the language of the indigenous Quechuas, which make up about 30% of the population. Sometimes the locals use the word ñapa - it means the same thing, as in 'Dos veces mas de ñapa.' - 'Twice more for good measure.'
